Energy and Carbon Projects
Wastewater treatment energy benchmarking
IWN partnered with the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) and interstate water.
corporations to benchmark the energy performance of wastewater treatment plants (the largest energy user across the sector) and identify improvement opportunities. The repeatable methodology has now completed two rounds, providing further insight to performance changes.
Zero Emissions Water Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)
Thirteen of Victoria’s water corporations are jointly purchasing zero-emission renewable energy from the Kiamal Solar Farm in north-west Victoria. Originating from the IWN Energy and Carbon Program, this innovative venture is the first of its kind for Australia’s water sector and complements the many on-site/behind-the-meter renewable energy investments being made by the corporations. Sub metering Project
The aim of this project is to assist water corporations with the implementation of sub metering programs at their waste water treatment plants (WWTPs). It is hoped that by installing sub metering hardware at WWTPs, specific energy consumption data relating to key sub systems and industrial processes within WWTPs will be obtained, thus allowing water corporations to accurately assess energy performance and pinpoint inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
